Mizuno’s making 2021 a year to remember for new equipment. The company is finishing out 2021 with two new releases: the ST-G 220 driver and the T22 wedge.
ST-G 220 Driver
Following in the footsteps of the ST-Z and ST-X drivers, the ST-G driver contains all the speed and power of a typical Mizuno driver, but with adjustability for fitting.
Featuring Mizuno’s new SAT2041 Beta Ti face and complex carbon construction, the ST-G 220 is meant to deliver extremely potent ball speeds and a dense, satisfying feel at impact. It also features shorter lateral weight tracks allowing a new center/back weight port. With three tracks and two moveable weights, this driver can transform from ultra-low spinning bomber to a highly playable mid-spinning option, with fade or draw bias in both.
The evolution of the ST-G 220’s weight locations offers a rare combo of both backspin and fade/draw adjustability options. Normally, adjustable drivers have been effective at just accomplishing one of those tasks. Regardless of setting, the ST-G 220 delivers outstanding performance from off-center strikes, with consistent feedback across the different weight positions.
Alongside the adjustable weight innovations and the new multi-thickness CORTECH face, the driver also boasts a quick switch adjustability feature. There are four degrees of loft adjustability, ranging from 7-11 degrees, to fine-tune both look and trajectory. The ST-G 220 also has an optimized Wave Sole that helps deliver an additional contribution to the driver’s ball speed low on the clubface.
To continue its 50+ year tradition of Grain Flow wedge forging, Mizuno’s latest evolution – the T22 Wedge – introduces four different sole grinds for varying techniques and conditions, while still featuring traditional touch and feel around the green.
One-piece Grain Flow Forged using HD Boron, the new T22 wedges also feature a microlayer of copper beneath the nickel chrome delivering an extra split-second of control at impact.
The four grind options include an S, D, C and X grind and each has special properties to help your approach. The S grind features minimal sole grind for fuller shots and lower lofts. The D grind has moderate heel and toe relief, allowing for manipulation of the clubface. The C version has heavy heel and toe relief for more skilled players and firmer conditions. Finally, the X grind features extreme hell and toe relief for the real short game masters.
The T22 wedges are available in three finishes: Denim Copper, Satin Chrome and Raw. The Raw finish doesn’t have the copper underlay, but it will still rust over time for the highly popular look requested by Mizuno’s Tour players.
The new wedges have a “modified teardrop” profile that are slightly more compact than the previous generations. The extensively bevelled top edge makes it appear thinner than the others too. With a tapered upper portion of the blade, the spin weighted design helps create more consistent spin and a more penetrating trajectory.
Mizuno’s patented HydroFlow Micro Grooves deliver outstanding wet weather performance as the laser etchings are made to release moisture and reduce spin drop off. The Quad Cut milled, and loft specific, grooves are cut into Boron infused steel to make them look and perform better for longer.
