Sun Mountain Motor Sports debuted a single-rider, electric golf cart at a media event during the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando. Called FinnCycle, it promises to add exhilaration and to speed up pace of play. It’s a two-wheeled cycle with an electric motor and lithium battery able to power 36 holes of play on a single charge. The cycle has front and rear suspension for a comfortable ride while being stable and easy to use.
Your golf bag sits along the center-line of the cycle for easy club access and stability. Your clubs are held in place with supports and straps. Rest your feet on the footrests and control your speed with a small thumb lever on the right handlebar. Top speed is 15 mph with a kickstand to hold it upright when it’s time to hit. The cycle utilizes a hydraulic disc brakes placed on both handlebars.
We tested it at Lake Nona and had a ball. It handled smoothly and was very stable and easy to turn. There was no fear of going down or tipping over - just an incredibly enjoyable ride!
If you have a chance to play a course that offers FinnCycles, be sure to give one a try, as it it not yet available for consumer purchase. The company is having a difficult time keeping up with the pace of orders for golf course operators, but the plan is to eventually offer the cycles for individual purchase.
