Wilson Staff Cortex Driver Features Intuitive Weighting, Adjustability and Feel
Cortex was the winning driver design of Wilson’sDriver vs. Driver Season Two, a Golf Channel show where finalists battle to have their idea become a widely distributed driver. Designed by contestant Evan Hoffman of San Diego, it features a titanium structure, carbon panels and sliding adjustable weights to offer golfers premium performance, precise weight distribution and adjustability. According to Wilson, it is offers remarkable forgiveness and feel.
“Season Two of the show yielded two amazing finalists; the Cortex and the Rozwell,” said Tim Clarke, president of Wilson Golf. “Ultimately, the Cortex came out on top with its clean, classic shape, overall consistent performance results from a wide range of player testers, and steady sound across the entire face of the club. We are excited to get this driver into the hands of players at all levels of the game.”
The driver features Fast Cage Technology, which consists of a weight-tuned titanium internal structure with 44% of its surface area covered in carbon fiber panels. This Ti–carbon construction allows for precise weight distribution, freeing up additional weight for maximum adjustability.
The Cortex is highly intuitive when it comes to adjustability. For spin control, it features the longest slide track Wilson has ever built. An 8g sliding adjustable weight down the center of the clubhead allows golfers to select their spin rate and ball flight. For directional control, golfers can easily switch positions with interchangeable 2g and 8g weights, enabling effective adjustments to promote a neutral draw or fade bias off the tee. To control trajectory, Cortex features Wilson’s patented Fast Fit Technologyhosel system, which offers players six adjustable options to fine-tune the loft in half-degree increments.
To fine-tune his original driver concept, Hoffman collaborated with Wilson LABS engineers to perfect the design over an intense 18-month process. Hoffman’s design was selected over hundreds of submissions to be featured on Driver vs. Driver. As the winner, Hoffman received a grand prize of $250,000 along with the opportunity to have his design brought to life under the Wilson Staff brand name.
In its second season, Driver vs. Driver experienced a steady rise in popularity amongst Golf Channel viewers. The show was designed to utilize the power of crowd-sourcing combined with Wilson LABS’ golf experience and expertise to create Wilson’s next innovative driver.
